On Wednesday, the Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (BAT) in Geneva ruled in favor of American star Ashford Tanner Golden in his international lawsuit against Iraq’s Karkh Educational Sports Club.

The BAT accepted the request filed by Golden’s legal representative, Maitre Ralph Charbel.

The Swiss court ruled that the Iraqi club had unilaterally terminated its contract with the American player for no legitimate reason, and should therefore pay compensation to Golden, in addition to his outstanding financial dues.

The court ruled that the Iraqi club should pay the American player interest, legal fees and Swiss court costs.

The BAT court based its decision on the legal reasons presented by the American player’s Lebanese legal representative, Me Ralph Charbel, who specializes and has experience in international sports cases before FIFA, BAT and CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport).

This decision represents a new victory for Lebanon in the field of international sports arbitration.
