The Seventh Chamber of the Munich Regional Court pronounced its verdict in favor of the former Governor of Lebanon’s Central Bank, Banque du Liban (BDL), Riad Salameh.

On June 10, Salameh won the case he had brought before the German courts against the Munich public prosecutor. On May 15, 2023, the Munich public prosecutor had issued a warrant for Salameh’s arrest, which had been forwarded to Interpol, co-sister media, Houna Louban, reported Tuesday.

The Seventh Chamber of the Court thus annulled the arrest warrant, and ordered the Munich Treasury to pay the costs. Interpol will also be notified of the court’s decision.

This ruling could call into question a number of legal proceedings initiated against Salameh in several European countries, including Germany, France and Luxembourg. As a reminder, the former governor of the BDL is the subject of various investigations in Lebanon and abroad.
