Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian has called on Lebanese political forces to “listen to their conscience and save the country” by electing a president, adding that they must “preserve their homeland, which used to be the jewel of the Orient.”

Speaking at a ceremony held in his honor at Dhour El-Abadieh, the Mufti praised Arab countries’ efforts to help Lebanon emerge from this crisis and further stated that “the solution lies within Parliament, and to achieve it, everyone must make concessions. In the absence of agreement, concessions, and dialogue, we won’t achieve any results, and the presidential vacancy will continue.”

He stressed that “the Lebanese Sunni project consists of establishing a strong and equitable state that brings the Lebanese together and respects the Constitution and the Taif Agreement.”
