During his speech at the Arab League Summit in Jeddah, Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati called for a regionally and internationally endorsed roadmap for the repatriation of Syrian refugees.

This proposition came as he welcomed the return of Syria into the Arab League, dubbing the event “The Summit to Mend Wounds.”

Mikati stressed the effects that the displacement of Syrians has had on Lebanon, stating that “the prolonged duration of the crisis and the increasing number of displaced people make the refugee crisis a burden that Lebanon does not have the capacity to bear.”

The Prime Minister reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to confronting the smuggling of contraband to Arab countries, emphasizing “the respect of the interests, sovereignty, and social and political security of brother-states.”

Mikati also called on KSA’s patronage and brotherly relationship to Lebanon to assist the country in its path to recovery.
