The Union of Employees of Lebanon’s electricity company, Electricite du Liban (EDL), announced on Wednesday, that they will maintain the warning strike which they started today until Monday, August 12.

During this period, no bills will be issued, and only maintenance services and employees at the main relay stations and the coordination department will continue to operate.

In a press release, the union stated that this is “to give space and time to the negotiations promised by caretaker Finance Minister Youssef Khalil to continue.”

A meeting was scheduled with Khalil for today, Wednesday, but was canceled for unknown reasons.

EDL employees are demanding that the finance minister implement Decree 13020 relating to employees’ wage demands, including the planned preferential raise and financial support in fresh dollars.

On Tuesday, EDL employees declared that they would start a warning strike on Wednesday, August 7, after Khalil refused to approve the implementation of the decree.
