The artist’s work for the Paris 2024 Olympics exemplifies his mastery in capturing dynamic movement and vibrant colors, offering a visually stunning tribute to the spirit of the Games.

Lorenzo Mattotti has left his mark on numerous prestigious platforms. His vibrant illustrations have graced the covers of international magazines, and have been featured in award-winning animation films. Most recently, his captivating works are showcased on the posters and catalogues for the 2023-2024 season of the Dijon Opera House. Lorenzo Mattotti’s work stands out for its explosion of vibrant colors and shapes, each drawing brimming with eye-catching details. His latest project, The Art of Running – Catch the Race, is part of the Cultural Olympiad, a series of nationwide events that blend sport and art in conjunction with the 2024 Paris Olympics. This dynamic exhibition at the Musée des Beaux-arts d’Angoulême, coinciding with the Angoulême International Comics Festival 2024, focuses on the theme of running in all its forms.

Curated by Marguerite Demoëte, the exhibition showcases Lorenzo Mattotti’s ability to capture dynamic movement through his portraits of runners, swimmers, and dancers. Demoëte explains that running is probably the most difficult motion to draw and that it’s an obsession that becomes quite hypnotic. She mentions that Lorenzo Mattotti manages this with a lot of finesse and subtlety.

Living in Paris for over 20 years, Lorenzo Mattotti first gained recognition in France with his graphic novel Fires (1986). His art, whether in large or small formats, deftly captures the action and speed of running. The feeling of movement is conveyed through layers of crayon, ink, and pastels, creating a mesmerizing visual experience.

In addition to his exhibition at the Musée des Beaux-arts d’Angoulême, Lorenzo Mattotti’s artwork is also displayed on the walls of the Esplanade des Invalides, a prominent venue for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. His artistic journey is a testament to his unique ability to blend vibrant color and dynamic form, making him a standout figure in the world of contemporary art.
