Lebanon will be making Olympic tennis history for the first time. Benjamin Hassan has been confirmed by the International Tennis Federation as one of the participants in the Paris-2024 Olympic tennis event.

Hassan secured his place thanks to a “Place de l’Universalité,” awarded by the International Tennis Federation and the Tripartite Olympic Games Commission to nations under-represented at the Olympics. This prestigious opportunity enabled him to take part in the men’s singles competition.

Hassan, who is 29, achieved a career-high ranking of 146th in the world. He won his first ITF Pro Circuit singles title in Manacor in 2022.

With his participation, Lebanon joins the ranks of nations represented on the Olympic tennis stage.

On another front, Hassan will be trying his hand at the Wimbledon tournament. The Lebanese player will take part in a qualifying competition, which runs from June 24 to 27 at Roehampton, and offers 16 coveted places in the main draw of the men’s singles.

To secure his ticket to Wimbledon, Hassan will have to win all of his matches in three rounds. This knockout tournament promises to be intense for the Lebanese athlete.
