The Lebanese national soccer team lost their semi-final match against Nepal in the West Asian Championship by a score of 1-2, following a fatal goal by the in the last minute of second-half stoppage time.

Yet, everything had started well for the team. The Lebanese players opened the scoring in the thirty-seventh minute when a Nepalese defender was forced to score an own goal after pressing on the opponents’ goal. Thereafter, both teams created chances, with a slight advantage for the Lebanese team in the first half.

In the second half, the Nepalese pressed in the center of the pitch to try and turn the game around, and they managed to equalize in the seventy-fifth minute after a mistake by defender Amina Karime.

Just as extra time seemed inevitable, the Nepalese scored in the final seconds to clinch victory and take on Jordan in the final.

Reasons for Defeat

At the end of the match, Samira Awwad said that fatigue had affected the players’ form, who had given their all to win. Lamitta el-Dib also felt that a lack of harmony in the final third of the pitch had contributed to the defeat, despite the team’s dominance in the first half. It seems like fatigue got the better of the players.
