The Electricité du Liban (EDL) employees’ union announced on Wednesday that the warning strike, which began last Wednesday, will continue beyond Monday, August 12. During this period, no bills will be issued. Only maintenance services, employees at the main relay stations and the coordination department will continue to operate.

In a press release, the union stated that following the meeting with caretaker Finance Minister Youssef al-Khalil, he asked them to submit a letter to reconsider his decision on Decree 13020.

Of note, EDL employees are demanding that the caretaker Finance Minister implement Decree 13020 relating to their wage demands, in particular the granting of preferential rates and financial support in fresh dollars.

The union, in collaboration with the administrative and financial directors, drafted a letter which was signed and then submitted to the EDL Board of Directors for approval. However, to everyone’s surprise, the Board refused to sign it.

As a result, the union has announced the extension of the strike.
