With the deteriorating situation in south Lebanon and the fear of a major offensive, the Lebanese are worried about shortages of all kinds. However, Hani Bohsali, the President of the Syndicate of Food Importers, reassured the public that there is no need to panic, as stocks of food products available in Lebanon are sufficient for at least three months.

Contacted by This is Beirut, Mr. Bohsali confirmed that “food stocks are sufficient for at least three months, so there’s no need to panic even if, God forbid, the port and airport were to close.”

He explained that there is no problem with the key factor of food safety – having product reserves in warehouses, stores, or even homes – pointing out that goods are distributed across multiple locations.

Mr. Bohsali expressed only one concern: severe deterioration and road closures. At that point, even if the goods are in the warehouses, neither the importer will be able to distribute them, nor will the citizen be able to access the stores.  He hoped, however, that this would not happen so that “Lebanon does not enter a food crisis.”
