The United States Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs has updated its travel advisory to Level 4, indicating an upgrade in the United States policy on travel bans to Lebanon.

The Embassy strongly urged its citizens to avoid southern Lebanon and to depart the area, including all parts south of the city of Saida.

The statement retrieved from the State Department’s website urges US citizens not to “travel to Lebanon due to rising tensions between Hezbollah and Israel,” prompting them to “be prepared to shelter in place should the situation deteriorate.”

The US Embassy strongly encouraged its citizens who are also near the borders with Syria and/or in a refugee settlement to depart, adding that the internal security policies of the US Embassy may be adjusted at any time and without any advance notice.
