The Lebanese Forces party strongly denounced the behavior of “certain politicians from the axis of resistance who have not changed their political positions, which have led Lebanon and its people to the current state” and who accuse “the LF of obstructing the election of a president.”
In a press release issued on Friday, the LF also indicated that “a very large part of the population and certain personalities still want to obstruct and lead their candidate, Sleiman Frangieh, to the presidency, as if nothing had happened in the country.”
“It is not the time for obstruction or theatrical games, but rather for pulling Lebanon and the Lebanese out of this catastrophe,” the statement added, stressing that “the necessary step in this direction is the immediate call for an open presidential election session.”
The statement went on, “Many are sleeping outdoors without the most basic health conditions while waiting for a meal for themselves and their children. War, death, destruction, and displacement affect a large segment of the population.”
The LF asked, “Aren’t these reasons enough to prompt some political figures, particularly those aligned with the axis of resistance, to deeply reconsider their positions that have led Lebanon and its people to this current state?”
“Amidst all that is happening, some minds remain unchanged, and despite the suffering experienced by the majority of the Lebanese people, these individuals have not hesitated to continue their previous games as if nothing has happened in the country,” they added.
“The Lebanese Forces party and the opposition expressed their usual positivity; the other side began to backtrack gradually,” the LF said, accusing the axis of resistance of “linking presidential elections sometimes to a ceasefire or moving to the new condition of securing the consensus of 86 deputies—which is impossible.”
According to the Lebanese Forces, “several sources from Hezbollah confirmed that the current time is not for constitutional obligations or political issues, but rather for the battlefield.”
“How can senior officials, both within the state and outside it, exhibit such irresponsibility by continuing to obstruct the presidential elections or falsely attributing this responsibility to the Lebanese Forces Party and the opposition?” they asked.
“What is still worse is that some have gone to complain to Patriarch Bechara Rahi, asking him to convince the Christian forces to facilitate the election of a president,” the statement continued.
Finally, the LF expressed “compassion for the Lebanese who have lost loved ones, had their homes destroyed, and are suffering from the displacement and the tragedy that has befallen them.”
