The Lebanese Directorate General of Civil Aviation has barred “all airlines operating at Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport from transporting any pagers or walkie-talkies.”
They asked all airlines to notify departing customers that “it is forbidden, until further notice, to transport any pager or walkie-talkie device on board of an aircraft,” in a circular that was released on Thursday.
“These devices will be confiscated by competent security units at the airport,” the circular continued.
This decision was made two days after Hezbollah members’ pagers and walkie-talkies exploded simultaneously in Beirut.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, a number of explosions that targeted pagers and radios carried by Hezbollah fighters occurred in various parts of southern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries.
