Lebanese Forces (LF) leader Samir Geagea stated that Hezbollah and its allies are attempting to push the narrative of gaining control over key state institutions in return for concessions in the south. However, he emphasized that these claims hold no diplomatic or domestic validity.

In an interview with Sky News Arabia on Thursday, Geagea dismissed hopes for new developments in the presidential file, highlighting that the “Axis of Resistance” is hindering the electoral process

He also noted that while war may be avoided, US and EU proposals are simply calling for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

Geagea stated that Lebanon should not be preoccupied with Iran’s agenda, but with the presence of Hezbollah, which has led to an abnormal situation as the party is intricately linked to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“Iran is focused on bolstering its regional position and shows little regard for the interests, economy, or well-being of the Lebanese people, instead aiming to protect itself from actual threats,” he added.

When questioned about the potential for regional escalation due to the current circumstances, Geagea answered that “to a certain extent, yes”, citing the actions of the Houthis in Yemen and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

The LF leader ruled out the possibility of the war in the south persisting for another year, “a resolution would be reached within weeks or months, a comprehensive solution, which is currently under discussion, would span from the Mediterranean to Iran but is linked to the US presidential elections.”

The Presidency

Geagea clarified that while the Lebanese Forces engage with all parliamentary blocs, they oppose Nabih Berri’s proposal for a personally chaired official dialogue, citing its contradiction with constitutional procedures for the presidential election. Geagea highlighted the obstruction of the electoral process by the “Axis of Resistance.”

Geagea noted that if the Lebanese Forces did not have allies, the pro-resistance candidate (Sleiman Frangieh) would have won the presidential election. He described relations with the Progressive Socialist Party as normal and mentioned that while the Future Movement suspended political activities three years ago, they still engage with its members as circumstances allow.
