According to a Western diplomat, citing a Russian official, Iran is not willing to escalate tensions that could lead to a large confrontation in the Middle East.

Iranian officials have informed Moscow that Tehran will not respond to the assassination of Hamas Politburo Chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in an attack attributed to Israel, as it does not want to bear the responsibility of starting a war in the region.

“Instead, Iran prioritizes continuing negotiations in Oman with the Americans, hoping to reach an agreement on a nuclear deal. As such, meetings in Muscat did not stop and are attended occasionally by security officials from Arab countries.

However, no public information has emerged on the progress of the negotiations.
