Former leader of the Progressive Socialist Party (PSP), Walid Jumblatt, sounded the alarm, saying that “it’s time for the G7 to impose a ceasefire in Gaza” in the shadow of the continuing escalation between the parties, which has raised fears of a regionalization of the conflict between Hamas and Israel.
In a message posted on his X account on Tuesday, Joumblatt reacted to the statement by the Group of 7 at the end of its ministerial meeting on Sunday. In the text of the statement, the G7 ministers expressed their “deep concern at the growing tension in the Middle East, which threatens to trigger a wider conflict in the region.”

The Group of 7 warned that “no state or nation will benefit from further escalation in the Middle East,” calling on all parties to “de-escalate” and open “a constructive dialogue” to reduce rising tensions in the Middle East.
The positions taken by the G7 foreign ministers come “at a time when fears of an attack by Iran and its allies against Israel have very much increased, in response to the assassination on Wednesday of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the Hamas political bureau, in Tehran, and of Fouad Shokr, a senior Hezbollah commander, in the southern suburbs of Beirut last Tuesday.”
