The eastern basin of the Mediterranean is witnessing a severe heat wave, with sweltering and humid air masses dominating the region.

In Lebanon, a significant rise in temperatures, particularly in the mountainous and interior areas, was registered on Saturday, with coastal regions also facing high humidity.

The interior regions have seen temperatures soar approximately 8 degrees above their average rates at this time of the year, reaching high 30 degrees Celsius.

The intense heat wave is expected to persist until tomorrow, Sunday, after which it will gradually subside.

Temperatures are forecasted to return to seasonal averages along the coast, a decrease in humidity and the sensation of heat. However, another rise in temperatures is expected on Tuesday.

Citizens are urged to avoid exposure to the sun at peak noon hours, to drink plenty of water, and not to keep inflammable materials inside locked cars.

Public warnings are also made of possible fires caused by the heat in forested areas.
