Caretaker Economy Minister Amin Salam affirmed Qatar’s desire to reach a solution to the presidential deadlock that satisfies all Lebanese, revealing its readiness to host a Doha 2 conference.

“However, Qatar will not risk bringing up this topic before it is mature and its success is ensured,” he said.

In an interview with the Qatari Al Sharq newspaper, following his recent visit to Doha, Salam emphasized that “Qatar will continue to intensify its efforts to help Lebanon emerge from its crisis,” pointing out that “Qatar’s presence in the Quintet committee is a guarantee for the continuation of the committee’s work, as Doha plays an important role in bringing the Lebanese parties closer together.”

While praising Qatari support for Lebanon and their solidarity during all crises, Salam indicated that he sensed Qatar’s keenness to prevent Lebanon’s collapse.

“Qatar does not want to gamble with any Lebanese file that has weaknesses and lacks a final solution and integrated understanding among all Lebanese,” Salam continued.

Moreover, he stressed that “Qatar believes that with a little stability and calm, Lebanon can be a unique destination for investments in many important sectors,” indicating that “Qatar today is very close to Lebanon in terms of working to find solutions,”

Furthermore, Salam described his meeting with the Qatari prime minister as “important,” revealing that the latter affirmed his country’s “constant concern for Lebanon’s stability and prosperity and its unwavering support for the Lebanese, and welcomed the strengthening of economic and trade cooperation.”
