Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati asserted on Thursday the importance of UNHCR’s full cooperation with the Lebanese government on the issue of Syrian migrants, affirming that “the government is determined to complete the resolution of this issue, regardless of obstacles and difficulties”.

In a meeting with UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, in Manama, ahead of his participation in the 33rd session of the Arab League, Mikati called for pressure on Israel to halt aggressions against south Lebanon and Gaza.

He also emphasized the need of continuous support and funding for UNRWA’s work in Lebanon “as this is of utmost importance in the current difficult circumstances that Lebanon is witnessing.”

The meeting was attended by Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Bou Habib, Caretaker Minister of Education Abbas Halabi, Caretaker Minister of Information Ziad Makari, and Caretaker Minister of Agriculture Abbas Hajj Hassan, in addition to Director of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Philippe Lazzarini, and a delegation accompanying Guterres.
