Sleiman Sarkis, a 28-year-old from the town of Chekka, died on Sunday following injuries sustained on November 14.

Sarkis, who was in the hospital since November 14, had sustained serious injuries from a shooting incident resulting from a vendetta operation.

According to the National News Agency (NNA), a motorcycle procession of residents of Tallet Arab, Anfeh, took to the streets of Chekka on October 8 in celebration of “the victory” of the Palestinian people, one day after the Hamas attack on Israel. The procession was fired upon by an all-terrain vehicle. A motorcyclist was wounded and taken to hospital for treatment. Security forces were deployed to prevent any escalation.

Despite local residents’ efforts to calm the situation and restore order, things took another turn when, on November 14, M.A. from Tallet Arab in Anfeh opened fire on Sleiman Sarkis, a young married man who was standing outside his store in Chekka. Seriously wounded, the young man was taken to Notre-Dame des Secours Hospital in Jbeil, where he died on Sunday. The gunman had surrendered to army intelligence on November 17.
