Qatari envoy Abu Fahd Jassem al-Thani arrived in Beirut on Wednesday evening, according to information reported by the Al-Jadeed channel, which also specified that “the Qatari envoy will tour several political forces after the Quintet tasked Qatar with finding a solution to the presidential crisis.”

According to Al-Jadeed, “Dialogue was one of the issues raised at the meeting of the Group of Five (France, United States, Qatar, Egypt and Saudi Arabia), with divergent opinions pitting the different countries against each other. In addition, the Quintet reportedly did not discuss the names of the candidates, and the meeting was quickly brought to a close due to dissension.”

Furthermore, “the final communiqué of the Group of Five has not yet been published, given the absence of any new elements in relation to those approved at the tripartite meeting in New York.”

In addition, according to information obtained by the channel, the United States has requested a precise timetable for the election of the president and is exerting pressure to find a way out of the crisis.
