Lebanese Forces MP Ghassan Hasbani said on Monday that Maronite Patriarch Bechara al-Rai has set requirements for a constructive dialogue, which cannot be fulfilled under Speaker Nabih Berri’s recent call for a 7-day dialogue in parliament.

Hasbani listed in a post on his personal “X” account the requirements that include “coming to the dialogue without prior judgments and without the intention to impose their ideas, projects, and viewpoints, and taking into account the positions of others.”

He argued that these points are not available, given the pro-Hezbollah camp’s insistence on nominating Sleiman Frangieh as presidential candidate and on imposing their projects.

Moreover, Hasbani added that the requirements also include “implementing the Constitution and considering it the only path to be followed, which implies convening parliament and electing a president immediately.”

He concluded by asking, “Will a dialogue take place according to the specifications set by al-Rai, or will it be a meeting outside the constitution to impose projects and ideas without positive results?”
