This is the story of Tripoli… the story of a marginalized city, cut off from the rest of the country by a political class who doesn’t want to see it flourish. For over three decades, there have been no development plans in the works. Civil war and intercommunal armed conflicts have devastated large parts of this city sadly nicknamed “the Kandahar” of Lebanon. Scenes of violence portrayed in the media have greatly contributed to tarnishing its image among Lebanese people and foreigners alike. But the true Tripoli remains largely unknown to the general public. This Is Beirut takes you on a journey to discover the other face of this millennia-old city. Our cameras wandered through its alleys and historic “khans,” where the past and present coexist in perfect harmony.
