Caretaker Minister of Interior and Municipalities Bassam Mawlawi emphasized on Saturday the Ministry’s commitment to “fight drug smuggling at all border facilities” and assured that “Lebanon will not tolerate being used as a transit route for drug trafficking to neighboring countries.”

In an interview with Al Hadath about Lebanon’s drug control plan, Mawlawi stated that “Lebanese authorities are taking preemptive measures to prevent the smuggling of Captagon from Syria into Lebanon, as well as the establishment of drug factories within Lebanon. Security agencies are actively engaging in intelligence operations to hinder the expansion of the drug industry in the country.”

Mawlawi stressed that “drug traffickers will not receive any political cover, and security forces will diligently carry out their responsibilities to prevent the entry of drugs into Lebanon.”

Moreover, he assured that “the airport security apparatus is maintaining daily coordination with the Ministry of Interior, and political interference does not affect its operations,” adding that he is personally supervising security at the airport.
