As reported by Le Journal du dimanche, a Paris-based publication, several allegations have been made against Omar Harfouch, a French-Lebanese businessman known for his controversial reputation. These complaints have been filed in both Lebanon and France, including one filed against him by caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati in Paris on April 4, 2023. Harfouch has been accused by Mikati of “defamation” and “slander,” “revealing confidential investigation details,” and “instigating and fomenting internal and sectarian conflict.”

The controversy revolves around Harfouch’s remarks in the Lebanese media about a purported investigation in Monaco implicating Mikati in money laundering activities, as per Le Journal du Dimanche. During an interview with the Lebanese channel MTV in June 2022, Harfouch levelled corruption allegations against Mikati.

The French newspaper reports that Omar Harfouch is scheduled to stand trial on charges of public defamation against Mikati before the Paris Criminal Court on February 6, 2024.
