Caretaker Minister of the Environment, Nasser Yassine, said that Lebanon needs 100 million dollars a month to implement the emergency plan drawn up in the event of war.
In an interview with the Voice of Lebanon, he said that “the government has been drawing up an emergency plan since last October in coordination with international organizations to improve preparedness and develop possible scenarios.”
Yassine said that several scenarios had been drawn up, the first of which was similar to the 2006 war. The focus is on the basic sectors: accommodation centers, food security for more than 5 months, an emergency health plan with hospitals, and fuel security for a set period.
Nevertheless, the minister confided that the funding received to date has not exceeded 25 million dollars and has been used to help displaced persons in southern Lebanon.
He also clarified that “information about the port of Jounieh opening for evacuation is inaccurate at the moment.”
