The Baalbeck International Festival celebrates the oud with “Strings of Baalbeck,” featuring performances by Charbel Rouhana and Le Trio Joubran. The happening will take place on August 29 at Caracalla Dance Theatre in Horsh Tabet, Beirut.

The Baalbeck International Festival, renowned for its dedication to culture and peace, presents a one-of-a-kind event: “Strings of Baalbeck.” This concert, set for Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Caracalla Theatre in Horsh Tabet, Beirut, is a heartfelt tribute to the oud, a cornerstone of oriental music.

Originally scheduled to take place at the Baalbeck Acropolis, the concert was moved to Caracalla Theatre due to the ongoing tragic events in the region. This venue change symbolizes the unwavering solidarity between Caracalla Dance Theatre and the Baalbeck International Festival, two cultural institutions committed to preserving the arts and promoting unity.

The first part of the concert will feature the Lebanese oud master Charbel Rouhana, accompanied by his sextet.  Rouhana is celebrated for his pioneering work in “oud jazz,” a genre that fuses traditional Arabic oud music with contemporary jazz elements, continually enriching the Arab musical heritage.

The second part of the evening will showcase Le Trio Joubran, an ensemble composed of three brothers: Samir, Wissam and Adnan. Descending from a long line of oud makers and players spanning four generations, the Joubran brothers have transformed their familial craft into a shared passion. Their mastery of the oud is exceptional, as is the harmony and synchronization they display on stage, captivating audiences worldwide with their authenticity and excellence. They will be joined by the master percussionist Youssef Hbeisch, whose enchanting rhythms and notes add depth to the Trio’s compositions.

“Strings of Baalbeck” promises to be an unforgettable evening, where the sounds of the oud will resonate as a dialogue of peace and harmony, highlighting the vital role of culture in a troubled world.
