The Cannes Film Festival is a breathtaking celebration of cinematic art and cultural innovation, bringing together bold projects and the biggest stars in global cinema. This year’s festival captivates audiences and critics, and leaves an indelible mark on the world of film.

The festival distiguishes itself as a premier event for its celebration of cinema and growing influence in cultural and social regulations.

Among the key moments that enchanted the Croisette, Richard Gere and Uma Thurman posed for photographs at the photocall for the film Oh, Canada, offering a charming spectacle for their admirers. Richard Gere, renowned for his Buddhist engagement as much as for his iconic roles, portrays Leonard Fife, a revered documentarian with a troubled past, in Oh, Canada. Revered for refusing to fight during the Vietnam War, Gere shared his pacifist convictions in Cannes. According to his Buddhist studies, he asserts, “it is better to be killed than to kill,” a reflection he shared with AFP.

This year’s festival is Jacques Audiard’s second attempt to secure a Palme d’Or with Emilia Pérez, an explosive musical comedy starring Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña, centered on a Mexican drug lord undergoing gender transition.

Saint Laurent, the first haute couture house to finance films, makes a notable entry as a co-producer. In addition to Emilia Pérez, the Parisian house also supports Parthenope by Paolo Sorrentino and David Cronenberg’s latest film, Les Linceuls.

Emma Stone, an undeniable Hollywood star, illuminated the festival by discussing her fruitful collaboration with director Yorgos Lanthimos, who she called her “muse” during the press conference for Kinds of Kindness.

Finally, a regulatory novelty graces the Croisette: starting this summer, the presence of a “children’s supervisor” becomes mandatory on sets employing minors, a measure announced by the Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati. This initiative is part of the conditions for accessing aid from the Centre National de la Cinématographie.

The festival’s key moments, the iconic films showcased, and the regulatory initiatives that define this edition will forever be engraved in people’s minds.
