The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a report on the efforts of Lebanese diplomatic missions abroad aimed at ending the war between Hezbollah and Israel and securing medical and humanitarian aid for the Lebanese people.
In a statement released on Friday, Caretaker Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib announced that $100 million in aid from the United Arab Emirates will be allocated to Lebanon. The first plane from Dubai carrying medicines and medical supplies reportedly landed in Beirut at 10 AM on Friday. Another plane is expected in the afternoon, departing from Abu Dhabi with 55 tons of relief supplies.
In Italy, the Lebanese ambassador to Rome, Mira Daher, met with Qu Dongyu, the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, to discuss the severe environmental impact of Israeli aggression on agricultural land in Lebanon, particularly due to the use of phosphorus bombs. The ambassador also met with Cindy McCain, Executive Director of the World Food Program. They emphasized the necessity of directing aid to one million Lebanese displaced by Israeli attacks. McCain revealed that the program aims to allocate $105 million to meet the humanitarian needs of the Lebanese and confirmed that plans are being developed to ensure the continuation of aid even in the event of an Israeli blockade of Lebanon.
To facilitate the delivery of medical aid from the United States to Lebanon, Washington has decided to cooperate with Qatar Airways to cover the transfer costs of assistance from the US to Doha. The transportation of cargo from Doha to Beirut is expected to be provided free of charge, following the Lebanese embassy’s contact with Adib Kassis, the director of Middle East Airlines’ office in New York.
France has provided 12 tons of medical and relief aid to Lebanon. The Lebanese embassy in Paris has also appealed to the Lebanese community residing in France to contribute to supporting Lebanon. Politically, Ziad Taan, chargé d’affaires of the Lebanese embassy in Paris, met with Ludovic Pouille, Deputy Director for North Africa and the Middle East at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, to urge pressure on Israel to end its attacks against Lebanon.
Brazil has also mobilized to assist the Lebanese. An initiative named “United for Lebanon” has been launched to purchase medicines and medical equipment. The Lebanese embassy in Brazil has called on Lebanese expatriates and Brazilians of Lebanese descent to contribute to this initiative actively. A bank account for donations has been established for this purpose.
