Caretaker Environment Minister Nasser Yassine reported on Thursday that more than 870 shelters have exceeded their capacity, particularly in Beirut and Mount Lebanon.

Schools have also “reached their maximum limit” in accommodating displaced people, whose numbers now exceed 1.2 million.

Yassine, who heads the government’s crisis cell, emphasized ongoing efforts to establish new centers beyond schools to address the growing need.

“Work is progressing on multiple fronts, particularly in providing relief and addressing the population’s needs,” Yassine said in an interview with Voice of All Lebanon Radio Station.

The minister expressed optimism about recent “diplomatic progress,” citing discussions with various countries committed to resolving Lebanon’s ongoing crisis.

“The political path is taking shape, especially to achieve a ceasefire and end the war,” Yassine said.

He noted that while countries like Egypt, Qatar, and France are pushing for a ceasefire, “the Israelis continue to disregard international laws and resolutions.”

It is worth noting that caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced on Wednesday that the number of shelters has reached around 874 and is expected to increase as the crisis persists.
