During his fourth tour of the region since October 7, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, speaking at a press conference in Doha alongside Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, deemed it “imperative” for Israel—militarily and politically supported by Washington—to do more to protect Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

He asserted, “Palestinian civilians must be able to return home as soon as conditions allow.”

Warning that the conflict “could easily metastasize, causing even more insecurity and suffering,” Blinken stated that the United States is working to “prevent the conflict from spreading” in the region.

He also characterized the morning deaths of two Palestinian journalists in Gaza, Mostafa Thuraya—a freelance videographer who also collaborated with AFP—and Hamza Wael Dahdouh of Al Jazeera, as an “unimaginable tragedy.”
