In the heart of the iconic Chateau de Versailles, a fashion event of rare elegance unfolded, masterfully directed by the talented designer Simon Porte Jacquemus. On Monday, June 26, an exclusive group was invited to an avant-garde preview of the Autumn-Winter 2023-2024 collection, aptly titled “Le Chouchou,” amidst a memorable parade where Jacquemus’ audacious artistic vision harmoniously intertwined with the timeless opulence of Versailles’ majestic gardens.

After the lavender fields of his native Provence, the salt flats of Camargue, and the island of O’ahu in the Hawaiian archipelago, French designer Simon Porte Jacquemus finally achieved his childhood dream by presenting his collection “Le Chouchou” in a distinguished historical venue. Carried by the mesmerizing melodies of Michel Legrand’s music for the film “Peau d’Âne,” this unparalleled parade transported spectators into a world where modernity encounters the elegance of Marie Antoinette. In a setting worthy of an impressionist painting, alongside the grandeur of Versailles’ Grand Canal, guests embarked in pairs on boats to witness the unveiling of Jacquemus’ collection. As articulated by Simon Porte Jacquemus post-show, the objective was to recreate an ambiance reminiscent of impressionist paintings. And the result was breathtaking: a simultaneously graphic and poetic setting, where the resplendent runway seamlessly blended amidst the verdant expanses and peaceful waters, where the boats moored.

The parade was marked by an exceptional casting where renowned international models graced the catwalk. Gigi Hadid captivated all gazes in her transparent lace outfit, while Kendall Jenner illuminated the catwalk with her pristine puffball top. Young Deva Cassel dazzled in a white suit of graphic charm, and Vittoria Ceretti caused a sensation with her neo-ballet silhouette. The fashion industry’s most sought-after personalities also graced the front row, adding an additional aura to the event. Monica Bellucci, Eva Longoria, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Laetitia Casta, Victoria and David Beckham, and model Tina Kunakey made a notable entrance. All were invited to embark and join the “water-side” front row, thereby creating an exclusive and unforgettable ambiance.

Jacquemus’ collection celebrates France through each garment piece. The crinolines are reimagined, lacework is glorified and an abundance of tutus echo Marie Antoinette’s passion for ballet. The ultimate finale of the collection is marked by a trio of Blue White Red dresses, short and transparent at the front, and adorned with long trains. “I adore my country, and I am proud of it,” says the thirty-something with 5.6 million followers on Instagram. But that’s not all. The collection teems with subtle references that echo Simon Porte Jacquemus’ “favorite modern princess,” Lady Diana. A white dress with black polka dots and silhouettes inspired by the ’80s, featuring suits and bomber jackets, are all tributes to this contemporary icon.
