Maronite Patriarch Bechara al-Rai affirmed on Sunday that “electing a president is the only and basic approach to resolving the political crisis that causes other crises.”

In his sermon, he addressed officials by saying, “Enough of the violations of the constitution and the fatal violations of the state for the sake of individual, sectarian or partisan interests that are condemned and rejected.”

Rai added, “Elect a head of state so that various institutions can be regulated, and the constitution is deliberately broken.”

He continued, “We turn to the conscience of the Speaker and members of Parliament; perhaps the prick of conscience will motivate them.”
