In a statement posted on social media, House Republicans claimed that Ivanka Trump had been targeted in a failed assassination attempt tied to “Iranian terror groups,” adding that she remains safe.
The statement said that the alleged plot demonstrates what Republicans described as Iran’s hostility toward the U.S. and renewed calls to prevent Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
According to a report published by the New York Post, recently captured Iraqi national Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi, 32, allegedly pledged to assassinate Ivanka Trump in retaliation for the 2020 U.S. drone strike that killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani in Baghdad.
The report says that Al-Saadi possessed a blueprint of Ivanka Trump’s Florida residence and had published online threats directed at the Trump family. One social media post reportedly included a map of the Florida area where Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner own a home, accompanied by a message in Arabic threatening future retaliation.
The New York Post further reported that Al-Saadi was arrested in Turkey on May 15 before being extradited to the U.S., where he now faces charges connected to multiple attacks and attempted attacks across Europe and the U.S.
According to the report, U.S. authorities and analysts believe Al-Saadi maintained ties to both Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Kata'ib Hezbollah.
The federal indictment reportedly includes photographs allegedly showing Al-Saadi alongside Soleimani at what appeared to be military facilities, reviewing maps and operational material. Additional social media posts cited in court documents allegedly showed Al-Saadi vowing revenge against the U.S. following Soleimani’s killing.
Elizabeth Tsurkov, a senior fellow at the Washington-based New Lines Institute, told the New York Post that publicly available information suggested Al-Saadi had close links to senior Iranian and militia figures, including Soleimani and his successor Esmail Qaani.
The allegations emerge amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s regional activities, nuclear program, and ongoing security confrontations across the Middle East.
At the time of publication, Iranian authorities had not publicly responded to the allegations outlined in the report.
