On the third anniversary of Lokman Slim’s assassination in an area controlled by Hezbollah in South Lebanon, several political figures took to “X” in his memory.
Samir Geagea, the party chief of the Lebanese Forces (LF), wrote on Sunday, “The Lebanese people still believe that Hezbollah’s militia is the source of corruption of the ruling clique.”
“Lokman Slim, the martyr of the pen, a symbol of courage, and an intellectual figure in Lebanon and the Arab world,” wrote MP Ashraf Rifi.
He continued, “The axis of evil and darkness (Iran-backed Hezbollah) assassinated him because his words were too strong to be silenced. It is shameful that a crime was committed while the killers and those who ordered it remain unpunished. Lokman’s cause is ours, and we will not stop confronting the axis that silenced him.”
In turn, Former Minister Richard Kouyoumjian wrote on his account: “Lokman… a martyr on the roads of Lebanon.”
Lokman Mohsen Slim was a political activist who promoted a “Culture of Remembrance” to cope with the many conflicts in Lebanon and the region. Slim was known for his prominent criticism of Hezbollah but also of all other sectarian parties. On February 4, 2021, he was shot dead in his car in Hezbollah-dominated southern Lebanon. Hezbollah denied allegations linking it to his assassination.
