The Palm Islands Conservation Committee announced in a statement that “according to the directives of the Caretaker Minister of Environment Nasser Yassin and as a continuation of the communications conducted with the Minister of Interior, the head of Army Intelligence, and the Environmental Public Prosecutor, it has been decided to temporarily close the Palm Islands Conservation until early next week.”

“This decision is a result of ongoing investigations carried out by the judiciary and the committee appointed by the Ministry of Environment to determine the causes of the fire that broke out Thursday in the sanctuary,” the statement added.

In conclusion, “The fire resulted in the burning of the wooden bird observation tower and some other material damages. The committee will announce the reopening of activities on the island within a few days.”
