On Sunday, the Lebanese population was caught up in reports about leaflets supposedly dropped by an Israeli drone over the Wazzani and Ghajar areas. The leaflets, addressed to “residents and displaced persons” in the refugee camps, instructed them to evacuate their homes immediately and move north to the region of Khiam by 4 PM, warning them not to return until the end of the war, as Hezbollah is launching attacks from their area.

Lebanese security sources confirmed that leaflets were indeed dropped and revealed that the drone – which landed inside Lebanese territory – was small-sized, similar to those used for filming events. The leaflets indicated that the area south of the Litani River is divided into numbered squares, with the evacuation area marked in red. In fact, the Israeli army is using the same strategy in southern Lebanon as it did in the Gaza Strip, where it divided the area into numbered squares and specified which ones were to be evacuated.

The release of these leaflets caused a stir both in Lebanon and in Israel. As the news spread, various news and military accounts connected to the Israeli army quickly denied it. However, OSINTdefender later reported that Israeli officials confirmed the accuracy of the leaflet drop. Notably, no spokesperson from the Israeli army, including Arabic-speaking IDF spokesperson Avichay Adraee, who posts evacuation instructions for Gaza on X (formerly Twitter), has issued any similar instructions for southern Lebanon.

In this context, it has been revealed that one of the Israeli Army Brigades, known as Brigade 769, carried out what Israeli media described as a private initiative, without approval from military or political leaders. The Israeli army is investigating the matter, and there are currently no evacuation orders for the Wazzani area.
