In an exclusive statement to This is Beirut, a senior U.S. official conveyed support for the Lebanese government’s authority and expressed concern for Iranian infractions against Lebanese sovereignty.
The official said that “the United States supports the sovereignty and authority of the Lebanese government to make decisions consistent with its laws and national security interests.
They added that “we are concerned by credible reports regarding the Iranian ambassador’s alleged ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a designated terrorist organization, and we urge full transparency on this matter.”
“Iran should respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and refrain from actions that undermine its institutions or stability,” the official urged.
They stated that “we also reiterate our longstanding position that Hezbollah’s influence continues to weaken the Lebanese government and its ability to act independently.”
