The caretaker Minister of Economy and Trade, Amin Salam, assured on Thursday that Lebanon has sufficient stocks of food products for five months.

In a statement, he said that the various unions concerned with food security and the strategic stock of goods and raw materials had assured him that food products and raw materials would be sufficient for three months. This does not include the shipments due to arrive at the port of Beirut in the next few days, which will provide necessities for a further two months.

Salam asserted that the current war poses a challenge for the government to ensure food security and deliver food and raw materials, knowing that Lebanon imports more than 90% of its needs.

He pointed out that the Ministry of Economy is in constant battle against exploitative traders who take advantage of people’s apprehensions about food shortages.
