The American Task Force for Lebanon (ATFL) hosted a reception in Michigan with White House Senior Advisor Amos Hochstein and members of the Lebanese American community.

The event, which took place on March 19, presented an opportunity for Hochstein to discuss US leadership in promoting peace along the Lebanon-Israel border. He briefed the local community on the Biden Administration’s efforts to restore calm in the region.

Discussions also centered around reducing hostilities in the region to facilitate the safe return of tens of thousands of displaced Lebanese to southern Lebanon and Israeli citizens to their villages in northern Israel, resolving the land boundary between Lebanon and Israel, engaging the international community to promote economic development in southern Lebanon, and increasing support for the Lebanese Armed Forces in their expanded deployment south of the Litani River.

It is worth noting that Hochstein has visited Lebanon three times since the onset of the Gaza war on October 7th. During his most recent visit, the American envoy warned that “an escalation will not help rebuild Lebanon and move it forward at this important moment in its history.”

Furthermore, he noted that “even limited, war cannot be controlled” and that a potential truce in Gaza would not necessarily extend to Lebanon.
