The Italian Cooperation concluded its 15-million-euro restoration project for the Jupiter Temple in Baalbeck, a UNESCO site of unparalleled beauty.

Italian experts worked for two years on the restoration and consolidation of the colossal colonnade of the temple. This endeavor allowed the handing over to the Lebanese authorities and to all humanity a unique treasure.

Italian Ambassador Nicoletta Bombardiere stressed that “the reputation of this site, its history and in particular the monumental Roman remains of Baalbeck … are universally known to attract visitors since antiquity until now.”

“Preserving heritage is a responsibility and a duty that we collectively have towards humankind. Italy will continue to do its part,” Bombardiere concluded.

From his end caretaker Culture Minister Mohammad Mortada recognized the great contributions that Italy, through its embassy in Beirut, is providing.

“The undergoing work held under the supervision and follow-up of her Excellency Ambassador Nicoletta Bombardiere, is a strong proof of the solid friendly relations between Italy and Lebanon,” Mortada said.

The Lebanese culture minister concluded saying that “Baalbeck, as your six pillars are standing high and with utmost majesty, so are you and your fellow citizens who have been defending the bright and shining principles of freedom, truth and values.”
