Following several days of apprehension, Israel retaliated to the attack on Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights, by carrying out a drone attack Tuesday evening on Beirut’s southern suburb, a Hezbollah hotbed.

Two persons were killed, including a woman, and at least 30 others wounded, among them six children, according to a preliminary casualty toll.

The attack targeted a top Hezbollah official, Fouad Shokr, who is wanted by the United States for his implication in the 1983 attack on a Marines base in Beirut, in which more than 240 US personnel were killed.

Shokr is a close military advisor to Hezbollah’s chief Hassan Nasrallah, and the head of the pro-Iranian group’s precision missile project. Hezbollah claimed that Shokr survived the attack, which they said was unsuccessful.

According to Israeli Channel 13, an Israeli drone fired three missiles at a building adjacent to Bahman Hospital and the seat of Hezbollah’s Shura Council.

The hospital later called for blood donations of all blood types.

Israeli army Arabic-speaking spokesperson, Avichay Adraee said on X that the army carried out a precision attack that targeted the commander responsible for the killing of children and a number of Israelis in Majdal Shams.

The attack comes as part of Israel’s response to the strike on Majdal Shams, in the Golan Heights annexed by Israel, which left 12 children and teenagers dead.

The Israeli media reported that the army had announced an increase in the state of alert.
