Kataeb leader MP Samy Gemayel noted that “the security situation in Lebanon is precarious and uncontrollable due to the proliferation of illegal weapons by Hezbollah and its allies, who have established a law of the jungle.”

He also stated that “anyone who opposes Hezbollah’s policies is under threat in Lebanon.” “I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that the incident at the American embassy is a ‘message.’ We’ve been living under this threat for years. Anyone who says no to Hezbollah is threatened with death or accused of treason,” he insisted, recalling that the opposition “appeals daily to the international community to understand that Lebanon is being held hostage by Hezbollah on behalf of Iran.”

Gemayel also found surprising “the awakening of the Islamic State (IS) group and its attack on the embassy.” According to him, Hezbollah “uses fundamentalists to achieve its objectives.” “We must not forget that it was Hezb that evacuated the fundamentalists of the IS from the Bekaa (in September 2017), during a Lebanese Army siege following violent fighting,” he argued.

“It’s important to remember that it’s Hezbollah that controls the borders between Lebanon and Syria and allows weapons and missiles” into the country, he concluded.
