The Head of the National Council for Lifting Iran’s Occupation of Lebanon and former MP, Fares Souhaid, called on parliamentarians on Tuesday “not to waste any more time” and to “get organized” to elect a President of the Republic as soon as possible, at the risk of being “cursed by Lebanon.”

“The landscape in the region is changing rapidly politically, militarily and economically,” wrote Souhaid on his X account, pointing out that events are developing at a fast pace.

“These events do not spare unstructured entities and peoples who do not define their choice,” continued Souhaid, noting that Lebanon needs a state that has a “presence” in order to safeguard national interests.

As far as he is concerned, waiting for the outcome of the American presidential election, scheduled for October 2024, is tantamount to “suicide.”

“Israel, Iran, Turkey and Saudi Arabia have the means to wait for this deadline,” says Souhaid, adding “but this is not the case for Lebanon, Jordan, Yemen, Syria, or Iraq, as they are small and disintegrated.”

“The situation in the region will remain stagnant until October,” insisted Souhaid, calling on MPs to “act” because “it would be pointless to wait for immediate results.”

“Nearly 1.8 million Lebanese elected you, even those in the diaspora,” Souhaid said, pointing out that some leaders are now discovering the extent of Hezbollah’s capacity to block the state institutions.

Addressing the MPs, he said, “Organize your ranks for a confrontation, which might convince (the undecided) that Lebanon is under Iranian occupation or else start a dialogue with Hezbollah.”

“Your responsibility is as important as your representative role. Take matters into your own hands; otherwise, the Almighty and Lebanon will curse you,” Souhaid added.
