Opposition MP Achraf Rifi stated that “the opposition camp categorically rejects any proposition to trade the election of a president with the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.”

His statement alludes to the potential demand by Hezbollah to elect a president aligned with the pro-Iranian March 8 Alliance in return for the party’s commitment to implementing the UN Resolution.

Rifi reiterated the opposition’s firm and unyielding position, calling for “the election of a sovereign president capable of saving the country.”

“It is up to the Lebanese people to determine the destiny of their country. Hezbollah has exerted its control for six years, leading us into a difficult period. Today, we firmly resist the Iranian agenda, and we are determined not to yield to any form of exploitation,” he declared in an interview on Wednesday with Free Lebanon Radio (RLL).
