Videos have been circulating on social media Thursday evening showing an altercation between Lebanese from the Baouchrieh area (Dora) and a group of Syrian refugees near Mar Maroun Church after the latter attacked a Lebanese individual with knives.

According to Al-Jadeed, the altercation was sparked by a traffic accident involving a motorcycle driver and the owner of a sewing workshop who sought help from his Syrian workers, leading to the escalation of the conflict, prompting the intervention of the army.

Local residents demanded the expulsion of Syrian workers from the area and called on the building’s owner to evacuate it of any illegal Syrian occupants, affirming that there were no Lebanese inside.

A military intelligence patrol also arrived at the scene to take custody of the workers.

Meanwhile, the army has deployed at the entrances leading to the Mar Maroun Church amid reports of the altercation spreading to the Dora roundabout.

Army personnel then started evacuating the building from its Syrian occupants after dispersing the crowd outside the sewing workshop.
