Caretaker Minister of Energy Walid Fayad announced on Friday that “the oil tanker from Algeria is scheduled to arrive in Lebanon on Monday, August 26.”

In an interview with Voice of Lebanon, he explained that the ministry had dispatched a sample of the cargo to Dubai via DHL for analysis. If the results confirm that the cargo meets the required specifications, Lebanese citizens should experience a gradual improvement in supply starting August 27.

Regarding preparations for potential open conflict, Fayad mentioned that “some public hospitals are directly powered by Electricité du Liban (EDL). In an emergency, it may be possible to rely on the hydroelectric power resources available at certain hospitals, depending on their location.”

He also highlighted that widespread deployment of generators across all regions, along with the development of solar energy, could provide alternative solutions if the power grid were to come under attack.

The minister reassured the public by stating that Lebanon has adequate oil reserves to meet essential needs, such as for ambulances, hospitals and water pumping, for about a month.
