Air France and Transavia “are extending the suspension of their flights between Paris and Beirut until at least Thursday, August 8,” the French airline announced on Tuesday afternoon.
For its part, Lebanese airline Middle East Airlines (MEA), which continues to serve several destinations, indicated that “only some of its flights on Tuesday, August 6, Wednesday, August 7 and Thursday, August 8, 2024, have been modified, while the others remain scheduled.”
The reasons cited for these delays remain the same as in recent days, namely “technical reasons related to the distribution of aircraft insurance risks between Lebanon and abroad.” This is due to the escalation of violence between Hezbollah and Israel and the threat of an Iranian strike against Israel following the assassinations last Wednesday in Iran of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh and on Tuesday of Hezbollah commander Fouad Shokr, who was assassinated in the southern suburbs of Beirut (Dahyeh).
