An air strike targeting pro-Iranian armed groups in the town of Al-Mayadeen in the Deir Ezzor countryside in eastern Syria has killed five people, including a senior Hezbollah commander, Al-Hadath reported, citing special sources.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said explosions had sounded in the town of al-Mayadeen in rural Deir Ezzor, which it described as the center of Iranian armed groups in Syria, while unidentified drones were flying over the area.

The Observatory said that three missiles were fired, killing leaders of Iranian armed groups.

It also noted that syrian security and military forces were stationed with the Iranian armed groups in the area of the al-Baloum roundabout, where the explosions occurred.

The director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Rami Abdel Rahman, told Al-Hadath that it is likely that the reconnaissance planes that flew near the area were US planes and that the group was targeted by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

According to him, Al-Mayadeen is the capital of Iranian armed groups in eastern Syria.
