Antoun Sehnaoui, businessman and Chairman of SGBL, congratulated Republican candidate Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential election.
He shared a message on his social media accounts, saying, “Congratulations, President @realDonaldTrump, on a brilliant campaign and a historic victory! What a spectacular comeback! Now let’s make Lebanon great again!”
On October 17, Antoun Sehnaoui met with Donald Trump during the annual dinner of the famous Al Smith Catholic Foundation in New York City.
Sehnaoui has been a member of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees for several years and is set to continue in this role for the next seven years. He was one of the key participants in the dinner hosted by New York Archbishop Cardinal Timothy Dolan.
During the dinner, Sehnaoui spoke with President Trump and his wife, Melania. He engaged Trump in an in-depth conversation about Lebanon, addressing the current situation and the suffering experienced by the Lebanese people in recent years. Sehnaoui elaborated on his vision for Lebanon’s future and what the country needs to become a unique model in the region, emphasizing its culture, diversity and the creativity of its people. He highlighted that Lebanon could attract investments and business opportunities if it could achieve stability, peace and neutrality regarding regional issues, while building its state free from foreign interventions.
Attendees noted that Trump listened attentively to Sehnaoui and promised to closely monitor the situation in Lebanon following his presidential election victory. He committed to forming a task force to support Lebanon in regaining its sovereignty and rebuilding its state and institutions, as well as reviving its economy and reconstruction efforts, given its unique geographical advantages.
The two men also agreed to keep communication lines open and to meet with the White House team after the US presidential elections.
